King William Historic District Surroundings

The King William Historic District is home to many restaurants, art galleries, collectible shops and boutiques. Original art is shown monthly at our premier event, First Friday. Originally started by Robbi and two other neighborhood women entrepreneurs, First Friday has become a well known San Antonio attraction. Held the first Friday evening of each month, the work of Texas artists is displayed in galleries, shops, offices, restaurants and outside on lawns to the strains of live music.

First Friday Art Walk
Walk south from St. Mary
's, Presa and Alamo (down on Alamo Street to Blue Star at Probandt). This is an area about one mile in length. If time permits, branch off onto the side of streets for additional art exhibits.

San Antonio Art League
A lovely little art museum housed in a beautiful old home, the art league is located on King William Street.

The Steeves Homestead
Open for tours daily, the Steeves Homestead is a Victorian mansion filled with treasures of the St
eeves family. Interesting and worth a visit. Located on King William Street.

The King William Park
On King William Street, houses a gazebo which provides
a pleasant setting to picnic or rest.

The Riverwalk
Located two blocks west of the Alamo Street Victorian Inn, this part of the Riverwalk is residential, park-like and quiet. Recommended for runners, walkers, and strollers alike. This is a beautiful way to get downtown.

Restaurants

The Mad Hatter - Bouregaard Street: Our favorite spot for a leisurely breakfast, lunch time meal, delicious dinner, or late night desserts. New to the neighborhood; this restaurant is sophisticated, yet casual. Order at the counter and your food will be cooked and brought to an indoor table or patio. Renee Guerro, owner.

BJ's Taco - South Alamo Street: Eat with locals in an authentic Mexican diner. Cooked to order, the food is true Mexico. BJ's is locally owned.

El Mirador - South St. Mary's: A San Antonio landmark serving gourmet style Mexican meals (including breakfast) in an authentic and inviting south of the border setting. Neighbor and owners Julian and Diana Trevino have also created a tropical garden patio for outdoor dining.

La Foccacio - South Alamo Street: Delicious foccacio bread made fresh for you, Italian dishes and fabulous chicken, steaks, and fish. A 'must' while you are in King William. La Foccacio is locally owned.

Dippin' Donuts - South St. Mary's Street: A new and trendy spot. The friendly owners make fresh donuts, loads of toppings and bacon and egg breakfasts as well.

Chína Latína - South Alamo St: The best Chinese food in town. Do not miss. Locally owned.

A little further down Alamo Street
